Could SIM Card Cause Touchscreen Issues?

I have a first generation Behold.  As of late my touchscreen has started to behave as though the calibration is way off.  At other times the screen doesn't respnod at all.  At yet other times it works just fine.  Odd.  So I searched through these forums and thought I would have to replace the digitizer but then continued to search and found that perhaps I should try reflashing instead.  Well, after downloading the drivers, when I plugged in my data cable, although my phone said it was connected, the computer was not showing a connection.  Eventually I decided to take out the sim card.  Lo and behold the screen started responding again, at which time I took advantage of this to do a master reset.  Left the sim card out for a little while, put it back in.  Phone continued to work fine from last night through to this morning. At some point this morning, the screen stopped responding again.  I took the sim card out, screen promptly started responding again.  Is it possible that the sim card is overheating causing some failures?  Has anyone else found this to be the case?  Thanks in advance.
