I recently checked T-Mobile's website to view their phones and noticed how certain phones mention a required minimum $15 data plan. The Gravity 3 and T and the MyTouch 3G Slide did not have anything mentioned. Does anyone know if they require anything? The reason I ask is not because I believe the site is faulty (though that it a possibility), but I heard that the Slide required a plan. Since the site does not say so, I am beginning to have suspicions about how legit the site is. Anyone know?

I won't swear to it, but I think just about all the new smartphones require a data plan.

Yea Its Required, They Add It To Your Plan Days After Purchased (If Purchased Online)
Or They Force You To Add It During Your Puechase (Purchased By Phone)
Unless You Pay $400-600.

I Called One For The Slide And They Data Wasnt In My Plan.

Do all of the phones I listed qualify as smart phones? I would think only the Slide does. The rest are just basic phones, really.

The Gravities Are Considered Texting Phones.

Alright, cool. Thanks. Looks like I'm getting a Gravity T (unless something better pops up soon).

haha, what about the Cliq (mytouch slide's not bad either)? It's touch with a keyboard, plus it's android. Of course, it requires a data plan.
But, if you call in a Tmobile employee (who's nice), he/she might be able to either cancel your data plan or change it to a different plan (i.e. texting). Then, just use Tele's proxy to surf the net and facebook, and wifi if you're in a hotspot.

Are they actually allowed to do that? to take the required plan (internet) and replace it with like texting?

Yea, definitely. I called in and changed sister's G1 data plan to unlimited texting.

Sounds good, but I'm already on a family texting plan. Can I just explain that and they cancel the data plan? Or would I have to cancel the family texting first and then have them re-add it.

Oh right, the $20/month family texting? If you manage to contact a really nice or lenient employee, try your luck.
I've also heard that some people pretend to "change" phones (putting sim-card into an older phone), and explain that they just don't need the data plan anymore, because the phone (as in a Behold) doesn't require one. You just need some info on your old phone to verify that you are using it and the employee will more often than not cancel the data plan.
Remember, androids have wifi, plus Tele's proxy still works w/o data. (Sis is using a Tmobile G1 and TmobileX works!)

i also read on a webite about my touch phones and the other ones that you need a sim card with a data plan to make it work and after that just switch to your regular sim card and you should be fine, im not 100% sure about it but my brother in law is going to give me one and i will try it and if it works i will let you guys know

A TMo rep told me that data plan phones need a data plan no matter what, because they're constantly accessing the internet for whatever. If you try to use the phone without a data plan, you will get charge for web access.
