Author Topic: do a search!  (Read 572 times)

Ok so Ive posted a couple topics asking questions and have had the topic locked and told to do a search. I understand that this saves space on the forum and time of the people posting, but sometimes people are really rude about it. Every time I post a topic asking a question I do a search for it first. you have to consider what the question was and how it was worded, because sometimes a search can be inconclusive. Not gonna name any names, but i just think comments like "some people act like they dont know what search is" or "SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH. topic closed" are completely unnecessary. something like "(answer to question/link to answer)/please do a search before posting new topics" would be more appropriate. I dunno, I just get a sense that some of the more heavy posters look down on the newbies.. you cant expect everyone to be a dedicated member of the forum! A lot of people join just to ask one question about the phone and thats it, and more or less, thats what the forum is for! .. not everyone is that way, just a certain few... no biggie though, just making an observation

As annoyed as I get by people not searching, I must admit that the search engine on this forum does not work as well as I would like.  For example, I will often type in the wrong thing, and the search engine cannot even figure out what I was actually thinking Smiley Until we can have a psychic search engine, one cannot expect people to do a proper search, as it may take 2-3 tries of different word combinations before getting it right.

i cant come up with one complaint about this site...any question i've ever had has been answered in a short amount time by a member, or i was able to find a post in a few minutes, maybe a few tries but not a big deal at all, this isn't Google, this phone as been out long enough for all questions to be answered, besides new discoveries, maybe the search your trying to do is so lame the search engine isn't picking it up, everything about this phone had been addressed on this forum, the seach engine works fine if you know what your looking for, this is just another worthless post

thats true...i've ran into a few bumps with the search engine...i usually get best results with one or two word searches...but i always find what i need...i think the major issue is posting your question in the wrong category, thats why members are slow and slightly aggravated to answer questions...yes, sometimes you have to word your seaches differently than the previous try...but i've never hit a dead end searching for an issue

we all got to look at it from different point of views. For starters, admins, staff and moderators should state everything in a calmed way no matter how aggravated you are, because well the positions you are holding are there for a reason and well you are proving a service (even if it is free) it is still considered a service and well it all goes down to "customer" service. For example, I have seen people complain about how bad the customer service in tmo is, yet they would not provide something better in here by doing and posting rude comments. (all i'm saying is that admins, staff and moderators, should indeed watch some of the ways that you guys answer, otherwise you would be hypocrites at expecting members to be polite to members, etc...)

as for the search, well it is not perfect and you can not expect people to get it at the first time and the simple reason is because if they knew exactly what they were looking for, well they would not be here at all, correct? that is what this site is for: to help people that might not know much about their phone. And so people log in, and ask.

and as for members, well although you might not know exactly what you are looking for, it would still not hurt to read and get some knowledge about how the forum works and about everything else related to your phone. So therefore, do not haste to put a question on the  first time you log in and expect the correct answer. Try doing searches, advanced searches and everything you can until your last resort is to post a question.

I hope i do not insult anyone with my point of view but it is just as i see it.
