You didn't let us down at all!
You shared what you knew.... it might not have been right, but the effort's the important part. Sorry if I was bitchy about it being wrong.... Hopefully we'll/T-Mobile will get this fixed soon.

Thank you for all of the information !!! it clears up a lot of confusion.

it looks like those of us who are on the 3G network will be unable to tether unless

1) we figure out how to disable 3G on our samsung behold
or
2) Tmobile finally adds the capability for those on 3G connections to tether

if any of you have any updates on either of these, PLEASE let us all know i will be checking back to this post reguarly in case anyone knows anything

Thanks !!!!!

Here's how to disable 3G on the Behold.
Godd-word, I love writing tutorials Smiley

1. Go to the keypad in "Phone".
Dial *#6984125*#.

2. Select "Network".

3. Select "Call Settings".

4. Select "Network Mode".

5. Select "GSM 850/1900".
6. Push "Select".

All done.
If you want to turn 3G back on, go back all the way into "Network Mode" and select "Automatic" instead of "GSM 850/1900'.

Tada!

i'll try to disable the 3G tonight and will post back again before the end of the day to confirm if this works.

try installing both usb drivers

the one needed for tkfileexplorer
and the one on the samsung website that you can download in addition to pc studio

i'll confirm later tonight if disabling 3G works, when tethering, and if i get it to work, i'll be sure to post how I got it working.

i have disabled the 3 g network and tried all the codes. I know i have the correct drivers as i have edited multiple parts of the phone already...

speaking of, give me a day or so and i will have a new post on a possible way to have emails sent directly to your phone. Blackberry and sidekick users will appreciate this feature...i also may have found a mod solution to the annoying 6 graphic scrolling image screen lock.

but, for the life of me i can't get this to tether properly.

okay, i disabled 3G from my samsung behold in my hopes in being able to tether successfully

Okay, so i figured out that if you remove that special advanced initialization key
+cgdcont=1,”IP”,”internet2.voicestream.com”

you get error 777

so i figured i would re-insert that initialization key back in there

but yea then i found out if you leave that key in there, then you get a different error other than error 777

if you dial to number *99# or *99**1*1# then you get error 651 (see attached screenshot)

i figure it's best to just re-enable 3G on my phone, since disabling it does not allow you to tether successfully anyways, which is a huge bummer to me because i would love to be able to use my laptop in places where there is no WiFi available

i suppose we've run out of options... or explanations...

if anyone has some last minute light to shed on this tethering dilemma , please keep me in the loop !! thanks !

Sorry guys i know i let you down, and as soon as they get HSDPA working. I will make sure this site is the first to know.   I un-stickied the how to as requested since it does not work for most.

You have done a lot of work and shared it, so don't apologize.  I have tried many variations, and have not yet been successful.  What encourages me is that you have indicated you have successfully tethered a Behold, so it is possible.  Other forums have some similar recommended settings, BUT - so far - not one of them has confirmed that they got it to work.

You have, so:

1.  There must be a way.

I got to samsung 3rd level support, and he was not as detailed as you have been, and then suggested tryng Tmo themselves.   I tried PDA support on TMO, and officially - they do not support tethering on this device, but she did say that (2nd hand), she heard some had been successful, but even if she knew the settings - she was not allowed to provide them.

2  Therefore, it may just be a matter of one or two additional settings that resulted in your success versus the general failure most people ar experiencing.  So pardon the following dumb questions:

1.  What are your Behold settings for the Browser (APN, Pxoxy primarily) - ie, I am assuming you did not use the out of the box TMo settings.  If you did....
2.  Are there any other profile settings you may have tweaked (like the network selection, etc).
3.  In your first post on this thread - did you have to do the advanced initialization string (it was not mentioned there)?
4.  Then did that setup connect, or did you further modify it per your follow-up post (which indicated that user name/password are blank) ?
5  The initialization strings here start with +cgdcont, some I have used to get connected with other devices (Nokia, Blackberry, Motorola) have started with AT+cgdcont - just want to be sure which worked on your connection.
6  Do the Browser APN and the initial string have to be consistant (ie, both wap.voicestream.com or both interert2.voicestream.com).

Anyway, I think a lot of people are very close - just looking for that possibly one thing that has been left out possibly.

PS - I could not find a spell-check on this forum - is there one?
