Samsung Behold Forum

so i've decided to take time outta my day/night to add the simplest possible instructions on how to add the 3 best apps to your Behold...
-GoogleMaps (cell tower triangulating map software if you know your general area)
-MGmaps (GPS software that works GREAT)
-OperaMini (cuz the default Behold browser BLOWS, also faster)

so to avoid reptitive questions from newbies on how to do this and that and where to find the apps.

**FIRST -- download the following file ****

it includes the TKfileExplorer v2.2 needed to view the internals of your Behold phone. be careful to only use it to modify the files or add the files mentioned.  don't go experimenting unless you're a brave one or rich enough to buy another Behold phone.
also includes the USB Modem driver that allows your computer and TKFileExplorer to "talk" to each other.  don't worry the technicals.
also includes Opera Mini (including the modded JAD file that allows fullscreen and touchscreen)*, MGmaps, and GoogleMaps.

*JAR and JAD files are two required java files for each application.  JAD tells the Behold how to install the java application.


NOW to begin...

1.  download the file and unzip.  place in a easy to remember folder (ex:  SamsungBehold)

2.  unzip SAMSUNG_Composite_USB_Driver_4_34_WHQL and install the driver.

3.  now startup TKFileExplorer by double-clicking on the executable.

4.  on your Behold phone:  go into SETTINGS, PHONE SETTINGS, USB SETTINGS, and click on SAMSUNG PC STUDIO.  save.

5.  plug your Behold into your computer/laptop via the USB cable provided by phone. your phone should still stay visible with a new icon similar to a desktop computer on the very top.

6.  in TKFileExplorer click on Settings icon highlighted in red below...

7.  this will bring up the port selection as shown.  pick a com..usually 5 or 6. depending on what USB port you have it plugged into.

8.  now click the Connect button next to it.  tada...there is your Behold's internals in all it's glory.

9.  now double click on the following folders in THIS order...EXE, JAVA, GAMES.

10.  right click in the bottom window pane (the blank white area) and click on New : Folder
and create 3 new folders under the GAMES folder similar to the ones pictured below....

(each folder for it's own application)

11.  on the bottom pane (your Behold folders) double click the GoogleMaps folder

12.  on the top window pane (ie YOUR computer folders) double click on the GoogleMaps folder which should have the files : gmaps-231-m2_L1.jad, gmaps-231-m2_L1.jar

13.  highlight both files and right click, choose download.  this will download both files to your Behold in the folder that you have chosen in the bottom pane.

14.  repeat with the other applications....

gmaps-231-m2_L1.jar, gmaps-231-m2_L1.jad go in the <b>GoogleMaps</b> folder
mgmaps-1_41_03.jar, mgmaps-1_41_03.jad go in the <b>MGMaps</b> folder
operette-hifi_getjar-en.jar, operette-hifi_getjar-en.jad go in the <b>OperaMini</b> folder

15.  now open up the dial pad on your Behold.  punch in *#6984125*#.

16.  Choose INTERNALS.  touch the khaki colored area to punch in the Master Key: *#9072641*#.  click Done and Confirm.

17.  Choose Storage Settings.  and than choose Update Java DB. after it updates.  scroll down to and choose Update app database.  after it updates that also.  click the Hangup button.

18.  done.  now you've successfully hacked and added three most wanted apps for your Behold.


* Play around with the Opera Mini settings to allow it to go into landscape mode.
** give MGmaps a few minutes OUTSIDE your house/apt. to find a GPS Satellite and locate your location.  the apps works.  just be patient and give it a few minutes to locate you.

i did everything in the instructions, and the only app i got workin is google maps. the maps gps one says "java error, invalid format" when i try to use it and the opera mini app doesnt even show up on my phone anywhere. any clue as to where i went wrong or what can be done to fix it? help!!

dont think, believe you have to load the map files onto your sd card or somethin, youll have to search for the thread cuz i dont know how to do it

 how do you delete the files from tkexplorer? i deleted some games from my phone cuz they did not work but the folders are still there in tkexplorer and when i try to delete them it says "error: unanle to remove the specific files or folders" why does it say this??? i need to delete them please some one help! :'(

so i successfully installed tkfileexplorer and connected once to my phone and began to upload the google maps files, but it froze midway and now whenever i try to connect my phone via tk i get the message
"Error: The communication link is lost"
hopefully i didn't mess my phone up, but anyone know how i can get it to work again?

restart your phone and try again. please take a look at the trouble shooting checklist.  delete whats there, and copy again

i really need help... i got a couple games to work on my fone... but wen i try and put guitar hero world tour on it, it gives me a message sayin "Java Error, Invalid Format"... can anybody help me because i really want that game on my fone! thanks in advanced =)

I'm just Curious on how these apps would be place on my behold using a Macintosh. I have a MacBook Pro and i believe all the instructions are PC based. if there is someone who has figured this out, i would be oh so greatful.n ;)

i downloaded all of them with no problems it was soo great but question. I cant never get that mgmaps to connect or zoom in etc do i need to have an acct with mgmaps or somethin PLEASE HELP, it acts just like that gps that came with the phone telenav. and another thing do i have to have data plan to use google maps????

PC STUDIO is a simple interface between your handset and your computer.  outlook sync, and manage transfer of files to and from the handset.

i get to the step where it says to press connect but then it says unable to open specified port, please try again so i tried it like a thousand times and its not workin...any tips or info?

Alright I just deleted and redownloaded operamini about three times and it still gives me the "Java Error. Invalid Format" I hate to bug, but can anyone tell me why?

I successfully download Google Maps, MGmaps and Operamini to my phone following these istructions.

I just tried to download my first game.

It saved on my pc in the .JAR format, how to I get the modded .JAD format, so I can transfer to my phone using TKExplorer.

Yes, I installed them correctly, and also the phone is in the pc mode as what the instructions said!  What could have gone wrong?

try restarting your pc and phone, and switching usb ports

Hi i'm a newbee here.  I had the same problem, restarted my phone as well as my laptop but still getting same error.  Also, when i go into Setting in tkfileexplorer, nothing shows up for port drop down.  I hope i didn't break my phone.  please help!

So I tried to add Google maps. I did everything and its not showing up on my phone. and now it wont let me delete the googlemap folder off TK. I only have the .jar file not the .jad. could that be the problem?

try making a .jad file and adding it to the folder via tk

Just wanted to add my $0.14.  I installed all the Apps and Games with no problems, short of having to reset the phone, often, but got them installed nonetheless.  Just as an addition to this WONDERFULLY written tutorial, I have uploaded "NFS:Undercover" and "Guitar Rock Tour" from my Behold and have successfully installed them onto my wife's Behold.

ok so since Ive had my phone Ive plugged it up to two computers and neither would read Samsung PC Studio, so I changed my settings to mass storage... It says it cant find the drivers for the hardware, I would really like to get operamini on my phone AND have a Nav program that actually works, is there anyway to fix this problem? Is there anyway to get these programs without PC Studio? Or should I exchange the phone since I haven't had it for 14 days yet?

follow the directions in this thread and youll get pc studio working, if its to hard for you then yea you should prolly return the phone.

nevermind, Ive already gone and exchanged the phone, there was actually a problem with the software on the phone, but the other one is working fine.

I installed MGMaps and I cannot get it to find anything. It says no search results or not found when i search, Even when it able to locate where i am.

Question: Do i need to download maps after I download the MGMaps program?

i didnt download any maps. i just set it all up and it had those wierd tiles or whatever then i waited and when it found me it had a map there.

i needs some help. alright, so im downloading a game with tk and the download meter thing is slowly working its way. all of the sudden, boom, it stops moving. give it 10-15 seconds and i get that dreaded communication error. ive searched this entire topic, found out to restart it, and i did. i delete it, i try again, IT WORKS! i go to download another game - communication error! restart, delete, try again, IT WORKS! i go to download another game - communication error.

so basically i get a communication error every one game. does anyone else have this problem? i dont believe anyones ever mentioned constant errors.

if someone doesnt get it but wants to help, i can post a video of my situation. its both frustrating and funny...mostly frustrating. i followed the troubleshooting checklist, the instructions, etc. accordingly.

Ok, I feel like a complete and total idiot. It tells you to enter shortcut *# to go into landscape on the Behold....how the heck do you do that??? I can not figure it out to save my life.

it means push the little 123 button on the screen then push *# and it will change from landscape to portrait and back again. its a shortcut in opera mini.

I dont have that, at the bottom of my screen I have menu, zoom, and back. I scrolled through menu and dont see it either.

That means you have a modded opera and it is not able to change back

I did everything according to the steps but when i connect my phone there all i see is (+phone) i clicked to expand but there is nothing there, no drop downs at all. How should i fix this?

I just tried uploading the .jar file for Abracadball through euploader.com (posted by Snwball137 yesterday), and downloaded it through my phone, and it worked perfectly.  Does anyone know why we don't need the .jad file through this site?  I'm new to this and I'm trying to understand the theory behind it (have already loaded some apps successfully through TK).

since its a direct download the phone prolly makes the jad file

Alright. I have a question because I've exhausted all other options. I've gotten to the point TK where it recognizes my phone, but when I double click on it or just click on the maximize (+) button it doesn't give me any files underneath it. I'm using PC STUDIO and I've hooked it up to 3 different USB ports and when I hooked it up it said the drivers were installed. I'm really frustrated because your explanation on doing this is dummy proof. Yet here I am. Is there any setting or anything I might have missed getting from step 1 to here? Or maybe another problem. Please reply. Thanks.

make sure you dont have samsung pc studio 3 open if your using tkfe

Ok, so I am having this same problem. Im nw to this forum stuff, but I've been using TkFIleExplorer for a while now and have opera mini, google maps, amazegps and all that other good stuff. However now I am trying to add minitube and I keep getting the same error message as the above. I have restarted my phone a few times but it doesn't work and I see no troubleshooting techniques anywhere.

** Update. I think I solved the problem. I was trying to move whole folders instead of individual files. At least now I get the satisfaction of knowing I solved the problem on my own... with a little help from you guys. I found the checklist.

Okay im pretty pissed...i just did all of that...i got Opera mini and palringo on my phone...and when i went to open them up it said invalid format or something...then i went back to internals and updated java and app settings...and when i went back to my apps everything was gone...all my other games ( cept for the ones that came with the phone )...i was really far in spore :(..why did it doo this? and why did it said invalid java?

If you go in with tkfe its all still there, just upload everything to your pc and redownload

Okay so i found out what my problem was since i messed it up again...When i was movign the files to my phone i accidentally put the googlemaps jar and jad files in the games folder instead of the actual googlemaps folder that i had made and it wouldnt let me delete it..so when i went in my phone i deleted it there first ( before i looked to see if the apps worked) and then when i opened the apps they didnt work.
Now when i redid everything the googlemaps files went back into the phone..i put all the apps back in and when i checked to see if they worked. they did. Then like an idiot I deleted the googlemaps jar and jad files again and it messed everything up..again. So i guess im stuck with those useless files, since tkexplorer wont let me delete them.

Try restarting the phone and updating java db to see is that will let you delete them

try a different one and make sure the phone is in pc studio mode

I followed every step, but for some reason GoogleMaps trys to load, but then it says it's not in the right format. Maybe it was the files that was in the folder? I had the two files that the guide said to have, but it still said the java wasn't in the right format.  If someone can give me a link where I can download the *jar* and *jad* files for GoogleMaps (because I didn't find it on this website), I would appreciate it.

-MiniOpera --> I dont have Data plan(internet) so cant use it
-Google Map --> I dont have Data plan so cant use it either
-MGMaps --> there is no tile of MAPS, so couldnt do any thing too, The only thing works is that it is locate your area like longitude ete..., there is no map of for you can see

the first two wont work but for the 3rd you need your maps to be in the sd card i believe

Where can you get the map? I click on the Menu of the MGMaps, they have alot of maps like Yahoo Map, Google Map, Ask.com Map ete....But none of them works.

a) dont post entirely in caps, ever

and you cant just type in a port it has to show up, if it isnt go back through the guide and make sure your doing it right, also try switching usb ports

i dont know where this "executor" thing is. i downloaded that link. and i opened the "SAMSUNG_Composite_USB_DRIVER blah blah" file but there is no executor, whatever that even is. can someone help?

I've installed Tk explorer, as well as samsung pc. I've set my phone to the pc setting when I plug it into my computer. And after alllll that, it still doesnt connect on tk explorer, it says theres no port under the settings. please help! im new to all this.

I just wanna say thanks to you guys for even listening to me haha, you guys have alot of patience to deal with ppl like me who have no idea what theyre doing. But heres a little more detail in my background

- I originally just wanted to have snaptu and mesa on my behold
- So I obviously found out from here, that its not gonna work.
- So I looked around the forum and this is what I did:
   - Yesterday I downloaded TK explorer and couldnt get the connection last night. No port connection, no nothing. I had also downloaded the jad and jar files for the snaptu, but obviously wasnt doing me any good w/o having the explorer working
   - So today I thought Id do more looking, so read the forums/ and watched the videos and downloaded the 2 softwares from samsung.com ( pc studio and the other one)
   - I restarted the computer after all that was downloaded
   - I plugged my phone in- changed the settings to pc studio
   - And when i opened the pc studio, my phone doesnt even connect on there, I hit connect and usb, and nothing happens
   - so even when ive opened tk explorer and go to the settings theres no port to select. nothing.

I tried for 3 days to get apps on to my phone and it wouldnt work.  I first looked at another thread about how do to this and was so sad because it was so confusing and overwhelming.  I know this is a really dumbed down version, but thank you anyways.  It did take me almost a day to get it working and figured out, but that was my error.

I am a NewB to Behold and the forum. Yet I wanted to say thanks to all of you guys who have contributed to this thread. I was able to successfully dl bowling, bejeweled, ucweb, mininotes, and counterstrike to my phone, while deleting the pre-installed crapware demos.

actually i am running in to an issue i started to down load the apps by right clicking the folders on my pc side and once i got to operamini it says it lost connecttion i tried to remove my phone from usb and restart programs but no matter what i keep running  into this issue i am running xp home. thank for ne feed  back

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could help me out. I already tried uninstalling and installing it again but it didn't seem to solve my problem.

When I get to the part to go to Settings and then COM, there's Port, but when I click it, there are no options, just a blank screen. And I try to Connect it anyway, it says Warning: Unable to open the specified port. Can someone help me? Thanks in advance :D.
ACtually ... now it just won't let me connect. It shows that same message mentioned above. I got it to say COM4, but when I try to connect it shows Warning:Unable to ... you get the point :/.

And do you have to pay to use googleMaps, or pay to use any of the games provided on this site for a free download?

Try to reboot ur phone then start all over. I have had that problem but simply rebooted- sometinmes a few times- but I have all the apps that I sought on my phone.

As for the gps, I do believe that u do need a data plan. Read the forums to verify.

Finally, for the games, if you search you will find many free games. I currently have 15 games installed, as well as having deleted the pre-installed demos.

so if I were to download the Guitar Hero by downloading the files that are in the games section, and I successfully get it on my phone, I wont have to pay any monthly fees, once it's there it's there and I don't need to pay? because I saw a thread where it said you still pay, just really low payments -- depending on how much you use the game? [and I'm asking this for any/all games, I'm just using guitar Hero as an example]

Be sure you installed all of the driver correctly and that your pc isn't in safe mode, and that your phone is in pc studio mode

Lg make sure you select a com port each time you start up tk, and most games are entirely free gh charges a lil bcuz it has to download the songs.

hey all, i'll try and be short.. im in the midst of trying to add google maps, mgmaps, and operamini. as far as procedure goes. i made it to the point where im suppose to create folders for these three apps in tk. which i have done. then i double clicked on google maps (ie phone section of tk) and its all a mystery from their on.  i end up just doing allot of random clicking in the top section of tk. i believe i should be looking for one of these apps to transfer to my phone. not sure how to find them. i downloaded my files from asiancuta post (rapidshare).. maybe im saving it to my comp wrong. ill admit im not very technologically savvy.  thanks for the help..  ps.. out of frustration i dragged the googlemaps folder from the phone section to the top part of tk. after wards i was able to delete the gmaps folder from the comp section of tk but not the phone section.. some kind of message saying it cant delete it.. i hope this isn't bad.

next time you download something look were it is on your pc, then when you open up tk navigate to that spot on the top half of tk and navigate to exe>java>games on the bottom half of tk

you cant put java games on verizon phones. they are all brew not java. which means your friend has to buy all his games from verizon.

tkfe works with any phone it will connect to id assume, but procedure would be same as the behold except different codes for admin and internals

The ports are assigned by the prog. I have 4 on my laptop, most times I use #4, but a few times the prog called it #6. As long the port works, it doesn't matter. If one port isn't working for you, maybe try another port.

Mininotes is small text editing program that allows the user to jot notes, etc. It is limited to 1068 characters, so it's not like say DocToGo where you could create Word Docs or what have you. As for where to get it, I apologize but I can't seem to find it anymore.

Unfortunately DocsToGo has not come out with a version for the Behold. I am a bit disturbed about the since I paid for the program and 10 reinstalls.

I did everything so far succefully till I entered the masterkey *#9072641*# and hit 'DONE'.. but for some reason the done button won't click?!?!? and my phone is brand new, so i know there is nothing wrong with my keypad.. any solutions to this problem, please let me know or reply.. appreciate it very much!!

yea the done button is retarded, just try clicking it towards the lower right

yeah thats happened to me too but i hit the back key then when it asks about exiting the virtual keyboard without saving and hit no the done button seems not as retarded.

i hacked into my wife's behold with this helpful guide and everything worked on her phone.. just my phone doesn't seem to go past the master key input...

Finally got the damn phone to accept 'done'... jest kept touching the done button like 50 times and it accepted it... damn 'done' button is very retarded! thx for all your inputs... btw, very good guide! thx for everything.. =)  like my itouch touchpad over the samsung behold.... too small the buttons on this phone! plus the scroll is weak on this behold... just my advice..

Select the com from the drop down, it is assigned automatically by TK.

HEY IVE TRYED pressing connent on the t.kexplorer and i get an error msg saying that it is unable to open the specified port can you plz tell me what to do?

First off sorry ahead of time for all the dumb questions im about to ask.  I am not a very tech savy person but can follow directions.  I have downloaded all the required programs, but as far as the modem driver... i come to the box where I can unzip and do so but then I cant install it. Says that another driver is available and other BS.  I have winRAR and TKFilerExplorer 2.2 and Samsung PC studio 3 all downloaded. I have noticed that researching this site is the preffered way to have my questions answered and and Ive beeen doing so for quite some time.  Also I cannot find a port in tk that will work.  Others seem to have this issue also and I cant find a reason why.  I have watched the video in the how to section but its kinda blurry at critical times(for me).  Thank you to anyone who can help.

One thing that I found that worked was to actually put the PC Studio software on my notebook BEFORE connecting my phone, then connecting the phone and allowing PC Studio to search for the drivers. Trust me, THIS WORKS!!!!!

HEY i did it before but i did a master reset and now when i do the tkfileexplorer and i enter the com all i see is phone and when i double click or signle click to make something drop down i see nothing and i have on studio mode what can i be doing wrong?????

I was in TK-explorer connected my phone and everything.  I have all the programs installed PC Studio TK-explorer, modem, etc.  When I do connect with my phone however I can not access anything from where the "inner" workings of my phone should be; to access my phones EXE, JAVA, GAMES folders.

wow umm i dunno.. u press connect on the cpu? the files on the phone should be right under the cpu files.. but man i have no idea why u can't see the files.. i would say go back and do the steps over. ur not doin sum right

Hi!  I am following the steps also and when I click "connect" it gives me an error that the communication link has been lost.  Can anyone help with that, please?  Thank you.

Set your phone to never go to sleep UNTIL you finish, then reconnect, do what you need to, then change it back. TK sometimes has problems when the phone sleeps.

Thanks!  I am not sure if it is even set to sleep, but I will try that and see what comes of it.  I will be back on later to tell you what's going on.

Okay I finally got it all to work. But im wondering, how can I delete some of the locked games, such as the bejeweled demo? I tried just hitting delete but it says error

In TK, go into the locked folder, go into each folder and delete the files in the folders...Just be mindful that once they are gone with TK they are gone, and even a master reset wont restore them.

yes i think so...

sometimes it happens to me i dont see the port. what i do is transfer your connection to other USB port on your CPU. hope it helps.

I have installed everything and now I connect my phone in PC studio mode then when I open the tkfileexplorer I don't see any port so I manually type the port like COM4 and it works for me but the problem starts when i transfer the file tkfileexplorer crashes in the middle by transfering 6-7 kb of the file.

You are downloading both the .jar and .jad files right?  Both need to be installed for the app to work.

Sorry for the tardy reply; I just didn't know that you posted this. You have make sure that you are both the jad AND the jar, and that the format is 240 x 320.

It keeps asking for the drivers info...i installed it. It installed under it own folder under programs/samsung/samsungdriver....

is there a particular file in that folder that it should be pointing too, or does it need to be moved?

BlackCherry, sometimes you may have to stop you phone from sleeping until you finish updating/adding new apps. Go into your settings and stop the phone from sleeping, change it back after you finish.

I've tried everything to installing every software to upload the games, it worked once then i gives me a connection error with the phone, installed all the updated drives and reinstalled everything still the same

Go into your phone's setting and disable sleep (timeout) because TK frequently loses the connection when the screen goes dark for some reason.

Im using an Toshiba Satellite Vista. It has two ports on the right side and two ports in the back. It only recognizes the phone when I connect to the ports in the back. Make sure you try all of the ports.

Apparently reinstalling and updating two or three times seems to have done the trick.

Glad you got it working.  There are plenty of great apps like Blue Media, Snaptu, Twibble and especially Opera Mini Full Touch Screen.

ok, so i dont really know how to explain my self, but...i have pc studio installed, and i also have TK installed. When i connect my phone, i have to open pc studio so i know that my phone is connectec... otherwise my phone doesn't connect "it self" so when i open TK, it asks me to exit pc studio...when i do so, my phone appears as disconnected so i cant put games on it....
even though this happens all the time, there was this time that i was allowed to put 1 game into my phone... but then it just appeared as disconnected.

what should i do? please help me! i really need help with this :-[

Since I downloaded some games and only one worked, I plugged in my Behold and went to TKFileExplorer, but after choosing a port, it said "unable to open specified port".

this is strange, i've installed a lot of apps using this, now all of a sudden i went to go do some more, and whenever I click to browse thru the phone, nothing shows up, it just says phone (P:), click it and nothing drops down

I have been here and it worked the first time and then I stopped using pc studio to download songs and I switched my usb ports a lot. Now I'm back to tk but it wasnt connecting I reinstalled everything. Someone help me I have looked everywhere the farthest I can get is I connect to one kind of com I click on phone and the plus goes away and nothing shows up. I have switch usbs and restarted but nothing works. HELP I m goin to cry

Personally I think the phone is not being detected, like I said when I went onto a COM it showed phone but didnt show anything below it, this happened to me the first time I ever tried this, I switch usb ports that time and it worked, so what affects the detection drivers. Personally I think its the drivers so can anyone give me step by step to download drivers like folder by folder.

Make sure you are choosing PC studio on your phone as the connection option.

You only use PC Studios as the connection option on the phone.  Do not use the program...use TK explorer only.

i installed exactly as posted and when i launch opera mini,it says it can't connect to the internet, altough i have internet in my default brawser

i just installed my first game that works and i restarted it like 100 times,but opera still doesn't works.i belive because i'm in romania, and my phone operator is orange, and i still don't have the proper right settings for net.here,in europe, the 3g is 2100 MH and in usa like 1900, so the 3g isn't workin' at all.i belive that's the problem.if anyone knows how to do my right settings,i'm open to sugestions

 Anyways I am sorry if this is already covered, I couldn't find it - I was able to find my port and get my phone connected, but in the menu on the top left, I can't find the Samsung key that allows me to open Applications.

It doesn't have to in that specific folder. In the instructors computer that is where the files are saved (You know..the ones you downloaded). Instead of application look for where YOU saved the file. For example, I downloaded the file in my desktop so I had to go to my desktop and then into the unzipped samsungbehold folder and from there I got all the applications.

why Google maps cant connect to the Internet, when I run this app, the phone screen appear a pop up, Google maps v2.0.6 is downloading the data but after this, I get a message: "This app need Internet connecting, pls restart app and allow your phone to initialize"

I've downloaded TK Explorer, the Drivers and everytime i click on Settings to set the COM, it only says unable to connect. I have tried COM 1-10 and its still not working. I have restarted my computer and my phone, and yet i dont know what is the problem so if anyone could help me i would appreciate it .

Try manually typing in COM 5.  That is the one that works on mine.  Also, you might try another port.  For some reason, TK will work on certain ports and not others.  It's buggy that way.

i've tried COM 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 and none of them worked. i tried plugging it on 3 different USB ports also and still no changes.

I've tried all day to make this to work for me with no luck!
I've gotten up to step 7, then I connect to default Port COM3 or COM4 depending on which Port I'm using. But I do not get a connect button? Please help. I've restarted both my computer and phone and with no luck. Have read the instructions like 10 times and nothing. One question.... I was able to change the settings on USB to PC studio but i'm wondering... do i need to install PC studio to my phone for this to work?

i wouldn't be breaking anything terribly important if i deleted the locked games would i?

Great write thanks for the great info.  I tried it out today.  I had a little bit of problems with the usb port i picked, used a different one had to shut off phone and restarted computer.  Then it started right up.   I did use the trouble shooting guide it really helped.

No the Impression has different codes.  I have no idea what they are.  They are probably posted on the Impression forum though.

When you download the jar and jad files make sure you save them in a specific file. if you just save them they can go in to internet temp files.

what folder did you put them in? Did you make folders?

Are you talking to me? If so what folders..i didnt make any folders...im following the directions step by step

First when you plug your phone in did you choose pc studio and not mass storage?
Did you get any errors when pulling up tk? You might want to check your settings on the top of tk and open up the com port I think it should be 6 or com 7 I am sure other people will chime in if that doesn't help

You need to put the jar and jade files into a folder

From the first post on this  topic
9.  now double click on the following folders in THIS order...EXE, JAVA, GAMES.

10.  right click in the bottom window pane (the blank white area) and click on New : Folder
and create 3 new folders under the GAMES folder similar to the ones pictured below....

I put in com3 ...thats the only one that works...it connects and underneath "phone p" its blank..and from looking at the pic it should be folders underneath

try double clicking on the phone p you should see files in the square to the right

Are you still wanting to use getjar?  If so the .jar file is available for download there. Just make sure you are specifying you own a Behold that way it will only show you compatible files.  There should be a download icon that will allow you to download the .jar file.

 After downloading it, simply drag the .jar file into the JAD maker and you have your .jad file.  It's extremely fast and easy to use.

thanks booboo.... i dragged it into the jadmaker and got the jad.file but what do i do next? im having trouble also finding googlemaps underneath C drive...its not there..i did create the 3 folders at the bottom already...

the best thing  i did was create a file named behold  in c driv and download all my apps there so i can find them easily.

12.  on the top window pane (ie YOUR computer folders) double click on the GoogleMaps folder which should have the files : gmaps-231-m2_L1.jad, gmaps-231-m2_L1.jar

13.  highlight both files and right click, choose download.  this will download both files to your Behold in the folder that you have chosen in the bottom pane.




yea i created a file under "program files" and named it samsung....i downloaded the jad.file into all 3 folders and did the keypad stuff but nothing is different on my phone i dont see any game....it says 2 files i only had one file and that was the file i got from the jad maker...............?

I know im almost done if i could just get that part right :)

Try a different port.....for me its com4

i tried all coms none worked

do you have your phone set to pc studio?

what i did was switch the ports on my laptop.... typed in com3 or com4 and then clicked connect

im gonna reboot my computer

Hmm soo im trying to figure this out and Im a nub so I cant lol, ok soo I got to the part where I put in the port in the TKFileExplorer and I get it to connect, it says Phone(P:) like it should, but it doesnt have any of the other folders with it. I dont know if its cause I cant even get my behold to connect to PC studios. Whenever I try to connect it it says insert CDMA disc that came with it but I dont have any disc. I did download PC studios already though but it still wont let me connect my behold to my comp. I have no idea what to do lol

You will have to download the phone driver from the Samsung website also.

So, I just got my Behold yesterday and I immediately discovered that the phone's browser is no bueno. A bit of googling landed me here. I followed the tutorial, step by step, and I've successfully installed the applications. My question is this... When I launch Opera Mini, I have no keyboard at all. I've changed the settings and gotten it into landscape view but I have no way to type.  ??? Did I do something wrong?

Is the googlemaps and the GPS free or do you need the Data plan?

The keyboard usually pops up after you click on the address bar or search bar.  It stays hidden otherwise.  Welcome to the forum.

Hello everyone so i tired to download a game on my phone i did everything as fallowed but  when i try to open the game sasy java error invalid format  this is the second game i tried  any ideas what should i do thank you


*BTW when i was loading the game from Tk on one of the files it says connection lost but the file was on the phone so i though its ok!!

I got up to the connect part,but there was no TADA. My phone came up and its contents DIDNT so I was unable to put the apps on. Do you think it is my phone? Or did i do something wrong. I've been doing this for so long,over and over. It just won't work...:(

Do you need internet for the apps. to work? like for google maps, operamini ?

ok your phone came up on the little box in the bottom left corner of the screen? was there a little plus sign next to it? did you start tk before plugging your phone in? tk usually wants you to plug your phone in and have it recognized by your pc before you start the program.

yes im pretty sure you need internet for google maps. im not sure about opera but u could try it and let us know!!

My computer only recognizes it when its in mass storage mode. So when i put it in PC Studio mode it doesn't come up and the only thing to recognize it would be Tk. It says it can't find the device software. It came up as phone with the plus sign yet I'm not seeing the contents in it. I don't see the contents when i click on it either. I'm starting to think it's my phone,I might return it and get another one and try again. :(
I figure if it was me,then the computer wouldn't recognize it in mass storage mode. Mass storage mode would mean my memory card,wouldn't it? I really think it's my phone,the process isn't that complicated. :(

i cant find the files for the mgmaps app. does anyone know the link to get both the jar and the jad file. i went to getjar.com but when i downloaded the file to my computer and not my phone, it only gave me the jar file but not the jad  :(

Hi, Google JADMaker and download it.  Then all you have to do is drag your jar files onto the JADMaker icon and it will automatically create a jad file for you.

I know that this is a bit late in the thread, but I have gone through the Install up to step 8. But instead of tada, I don't see anything except for the "phone (P:)" on the left with no files at all. Can somebody help me out?

OK, thanks! I'm running on w7 ultimate by the way. Whenever the game is halfway installed, it goes into "not responding" then after about a minute on my comp it loses connection.

Same thing happened to me.   :-\

The phone is going into sleep mode and the connection is getting lost.  Keep tapping somewhere on the screen to keep the phone active.  (I hit the back button while it is downloading and this solves the problem 9 out of 10 times.). Unfortunately, TK is buggy and sometimes it takes a few tries for it to download the apps and games.  Just keep after it.  It gives even the most experienced users fits.

Hi, I'm not completely positive but I think TK is only compatible with Windows.

You can use these instructions to install just about any compatible games and apps on your Behold.

First off, have you installed all the phone drivers from the Samsung website?  If so, try another port.  For some reason it will work only on certain ports.  TK can be quite buggy.

I installed the driver the very first link came with, are there anymore? And I tried another port, nothin : (

i was wondering if anyone had google latitude on their behold and if it worked or not. if it does, id love to know the site you got it from and how you did it =D

I need help..... I have Windows 7? Which I don't know if that's my error, but I've downloaded everything I was told to download. I get to the TKExplorer part though and when I plug my phone in and go to settings... nothing comes up in my PORT. So I tried typing in the command and find none of the spots work except for COM4 but even then it says error with connecting to source (Connection to Source is Lost). Could someone help me... Thanks ^_^

Sorry, as far as I know TK file explorer is not compatible with Windows 7.

Hello i had no problems installing games and software on my behold with vista but when i installed windows 7 tk filer can not seem to find my phone. Any suggestions? i have tried all three usb ports on my laptop and all 7 on my desktop and neither pc can find it.

I have read this entire thread and haven't seen an answer to my problem. I have installed TKexplorer and Samsung USB driver. I have my usb setting on PC studio. My phone is connected (used Com3) and yet there are no files listed under Phone (P:). I have double clicked on it and nothing. On the bottom it says 0 items. I have tried different usb ports and turned the phone and computer off and on. The only thing I haven't done is update sps3 because I don't know what that is or where it is located on my phone (or computer).  Has anyone figured out the problem?

Hmm, I got the apps installed fine but can't get them to work. Opera says unable to connect to the internet or something like that. I just have the basic $10 per month internet so I did the html or proxy hack, what ever it was. How do I make it work?
