ZOMG my unlock code just came through email from t-mobile technical support....
this was a battle. i had to call like 5 separate times, and the first 2 times they wouldn't send me the code since i haven't had the phone for 90 days......
but it's here Smiley

in terms of expenses, it's kind of wierd....
roaming costs a LOT, but the SIM cards are expensive in europe too... and most european countries require you to show an EU id to get a sim card (which I have, but no foreigners do)....
and to call back to the us with a european sim card is REALLY expensive. most of the cards have this top-up system like on virgin mobile in the us, and they come in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100 euros... a call to america is like anywhere between 1 euro to a euro 20 cents per minute.

the card without the topup already costs like 30-50 euro. and don't even think about data.... theoretically us behold users can use the 3g data in europe, but i haven't tried it yet and i'm sure it's EXPENSIVE.
the other thing is that when you have a sim card in europe, you can't roam like you do in the us. it costs a lot of money to roam, and it changes depending on where you go....
on my italian sim card, it costs 15 cents per minute on top of like 6 cents per minute to call a phone in italy from albania... it's really sad.

i just told them i'm travelling (i didn't tell them where) and that i needed the "subsidy unlock code".
they won't tell you the code on the phone; they'll send you an email. it takes around 24 hours. unfortunately, i should provide an update to this story.

When the wrong unlock code is entered into the Behold 5 times (which I did), the phone becomes "frozen". A message is displayed on the screen "Phone is freeze. Deactivation failed".
Now the phone can only be used with the T-Mobile sim, until you provide the unfreeze code. I thought I would write a nifty guide as to how to unfreeze the Behold, since nobody's written one yet.

HOW TO UNFREEZE THE BEHOLD

The unfreeze code is not particularly easy to find. There are two ways to get it.

1. There are sellers on Ebay that sell both unlock codes and unfreeze codes together. These cost around $20-30 and come through email to you.

You remove the T-Mobile SIM, put in a SIM from another provider (AT&T etc.) and the phone will say "Phone freeze. Contact operator". There will be 2 options; "SOS" and "Keypad".

Hit "Keypad" and enter your unfreeze code.
Sometimes that option works and sometimes it doesn't.
The most reliable way (but extremely difficult) is:

2. Go to http://www.unlocksamsungonline.nl. Buy a 1 time login credit for $16.
An email will come with a link to download a software called "SRS Remote Unlock Client". The software lets you use the Behold data cable to directly firmware unlock and unfreeze the Behold.

Because the Behold is a 3G phone and new, you have to install drivers called "QXDM drivers". These drivers are used to recognise the Behold once the Behold is changed into Qualcomm USB Mode (a diagnostic USB setting).

You plug the Behold into the computer in Qualcomm USB Mode, the SRS Remote Client detects the Behold, and you can directly unlock and unfreeze the Behold.

Bare in mind that the SRS Remote Client method can SERIOUSLY BRICK YOUR PHONE IF YOU DON'T DO IT COMPLETELY RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
If you feel this is valuable enough, tell me and I'll edit it with far more detail and we can sticky it.

Yes, you do (unfortunately). the unfreeze code is unique to your phone, just like the unlock code.
