Text Message Tone help..

Well I'm back..lol
I've set my text message tone to an mp3 of mine...and every time I get a text message I can't hear it.
Well I thought I couldn't..
I made my friend send me one and I put my phone right up to my ear and could hear it but very very faintly. It almost sounded as if it wasn't there...but it was just super quiet.
It plays loudly and perfectly fine in my music player..and when I go to message settings, I set the tone to # 7 and it even sounds loud there.

So what's the deal?
Why is it quiet when I get a text message? Any ideas?

possibly because the phone can draw them from its memory faster so the processor can play them at the right volume
