So I recently went to China, where the standard electrical outlet is 240 volts. Although I did not bring my SIM card, I brought my phone so that I could take pictures and watch movies when I was bored. Ever since I first charged my phone using the 240-volt outlet (which the charger does say it can handle!), my phone and/or its battery has been jacked up!

I'm back in the US, where it's 120 volts or something. Anyways, when I fully charge my phone it goes to five bars. But, if the phone is on for any more than five minutes (even if it's just on the homescreen), the battery drops from the full five to none and the "battery low" beeping sign pops up. Thirty seconds later...poof, the phone turns off. Knowing this, I heeded the sign's warning and stopped using my phone as soon as the sign comes up. An hour later, I'll check my phone and the battery is magically at three or four bars. Wtf? Again, if the screen is on for too long, my bars are gone and the sign pops up again. Leave it alone. It magically recharges. At some point, it will stop recharging though (it's not like it can magically recharge itself forever, haha).

So I decided, maybe I'll just suck it up and use my jacked up phone for the rest of the contract, which expires on Christmas Eve. For the past month, I've been dealing with a screwed up battery. I've learned to live with it. But last night is when I got really scared. I turned my phone off and plugged it into the charger like usual. I couldn't sleep, and about an hour later I remembered I had to set an alarm to wake up at seven in the morning (schedule pickup for school). When I went to grab my phone, it was HOT! Not burning hot so that I dropped it or anything, but it was probably at least 100 degrees. My dad says that his phone, a Blackberry Curve, heats up when it's charging and it's always like that. I don't know about you guys, but my phone is never like that. Now I'm afraid my phone's gonna go BOOM! any second.

I plan on calling T-Mobile tonight or tomorrow night to ask to have my phone replaced, because I am pissed off with its battery situation and now this overheating battery is really scaring me. In fact, I probably won't dare charge it tonight. But I remember some newbie on the forum talking about how his busted Behold was replaced with a Behold II when T-Mobile said that they no longer made Behold I's. Could this be my chance to get a new phone without a contract? (Even if it's another Behold I, it's better than my jacked up phone now.) If they do offer a new phone that's not the Behold II, I expect an offer of any phone that costs $150 (with a 2-year contract) or less, because that's what I had paid for my phone when I got it.

So my questions to you guys are:
--Is my battery situation normal?
--Do you think I can get it replaced?
--If they offer me a new phone, what should I get?

If they do let me get it replaced, I'm thinking about asking for a MyTouch 3G Slide, Motorola Cliq, or Gravity T. Any know flaws with those?

I've never had the phone get that hot.  Warm yes, but never so hot that I was worried about it.

I doubt that they'll offer you a new phone but I could be wrong.  Usually in those cases they might offer a new battery or a replacement Behold.  If they don't have any refurbished Beholds to offer, they might offer a phone that is similar to its value, but I'm not sure.  My experience with replacement phones is limited to AT&T and their customer service sucks which is why I'm with T-Mo now. All I can tell you is to give them a call and ask.  The worst that's gonna happen is they'll tell you no.  Good luck  Smiley

Maybe I'm under/overexaggerating it, but it did feel about as warm as a jacuzzi might be. Also keep in mind that I have a hard shell on my phone, so the phone itself might be even hotter. I dunno.

And if anyone cares, I won't leave the forum if I get a new phone. Cheesy

Well, I called Samsung. My one-year warranty is up. But on the plus side, I can still ship it to them and they'll repair my phone for the small fee of $70.63.

WTF?!

First of all, that's such a specific cost! 63 cents?! That'll get you about an hour's worth of rides on the electric horse at Meijer's. Congratulations...

Second of all... $70!!! To get a piece of garbage fixed so that it's a colder piece of garbage?! Great service, Samsung.

Think I'd have any luck if I called T-Mobile? Or do you think they'd just redirect me to Samsung?

Btw, I talked to a Carlos. Hehe.

I'd try T-Mo.  Judging by all the phones Samsung turns out, they could care less about providing decent support and customer service on older phones. T-Mo will at least work with you a little better and attempt to help.

I think it is the battery, but I need a valid excuse to try and trade in my Behold for something better.
