I've still got some work to do on that  Tongue I mean, it works and all, but I'd like it to be better than the already available one.

About the SMS bot, the NFL Updates service has been tested and is fully functional. Works great, and I don't have to pay $0.15 to get updates from nfl.com! Next two projects for the bot: remove the registration system and allow the bot to auto-register you when you first 'talk' to it, and improve the NFL Updates service by changing the layout of the updates.

Update!

Changelog:
  • Enhanced the layout and efficiency of the NFL Updates service. Instead of the original display of points every time the score changes, actions in the game are now sent to the subscriber (i.e. touchdown scored, Player threw 35 yd. touchdown pass, etc). The base of the service is fully functional, although the new way of sending updates (message layout) has yet to be tested due to no current NFL games being played.
  • Registration system removed; instead, there is a new 'system' in place. This will automatically register you (permanently - but don't worry) into the database the moment you first 'talk' with the bot. This way, no manual configuration is required.
  • A system has been in put in place that will allow future users to create their own 'commands' for the SMS service. This will allow me to take off some of the pressure, and will allow a userbase and even more creativity! Expect updates containing future information regarding the new system.
  • A new auth/access level system has been made. This has four different stages: regular member, donater, moderator/ranked, administrator. This will also allow me to reward those who donate in the future, and will allow others to keep the service in control while I am busy and/or away.

Current list of commands [taken straight from console output]:
  • Registered command: trigger='gmsg (Global Message)'; flags='m'; author='TeleNubby'; version='1.0'
  • Registered command: trigger='irc (IRC2SMS)'; flags='dsupc'; author='TeleNubby'; version='1.0'
  • Registered command: trigger='nfl (NFL Updates)'; flags='-gsu'; author='TeleNubby'; version='2.0'
  • Registered command: trigger='*' (Not Supported); flags='N/A'; author='TeleNubby'; version='1.0'
  • Registered command: trigger='opts (Options)'; flags='a'; author='TeleNubby'; version='1.0'
  • Registered command: trigger='reg (Invitation)'; flags='i'; author='TeleNubby'; version='2.0'
  • Registered command: trigger='sc' (Screen Capture); flags='N/A'; author='TeleNubby'; version='1.0'
  • Registered command: trigger='sd (Shut Down)'; flags='srh'; author='TeleNubby'; version='1.0'
  • Registered command: trigger='stats (Statistics)'; flags='N/A'; author='TeleNubby'; version='2.0'

To-Do List:
  • Work on the bypass/proxy. I hope to make this feature a huge hit; but, we'll see what happens. No promises to anyone!
  • Improve current service commands and add entirely new ones. I'm open to suggestions!
  • Ready a public test of the SMS service and plan ahead for release of the bypass/proxy.
  • Figure out a way to somehow/maybe incorporate advertisements into any of this (but keep them as close to unnoticeable as possible, as I use all of this myself too). I might as well make some cash, right? Anyone got any suggestions?

That's it for now!

ADs would probably just be on the site (not bypass/proxy) containing information on the SMS service (such as commands and extensive detail (i.e. flags/options) on the commands). And, I have a wedding to attend on Saturday, but there's a good chance it'll be up and running Sunday morning in time for NFL Game Day. A post regarding the launch will be available when due time is reached.

Thanks!  Smiley

Although I haven't started ACTUAL work on the bypass (I mean, there is one that exists and works, but I want additional features), my goals are for it to be fast, efficient, user-friendly, and feature-rich while keeping it small and compact. This is so that our phones can take advantage of it with speed rather than waiting precious seconds for it to load.

Thanks for the feedback guys, keep it coming!

As of current plans, only the NFL Updates service. I have a wedding to attend and plans may or may not change.

SUGGESTIONS FOR THE SMS SERVICE AND/OR THE BYPASS SERVICE ARE HIGHLY APPRECIATED!

When done, mine would work, yeah.

Today's the official public launch of the NFL Updates service. It'll probably go up 30 minutes or so after the first game starts (so I can quickly test a new format/style of the update message) but clear instructions on how to use it will be posted below this and on the first post.

NFL Updates service is live!

Instructions:
The SMS Service is just an AIM Bot, this is due to money constraints and ease of programming for me. The bot is written in Java, and there are two ways of contacting/communicating with it. The first, is signing onto AIM using your phone and talking to the screenname below, or you can also directly communicate with the bot without signging onto AIM. The two methods follow.

Method A:
  • Sign onto AIM using your phone's built-in or 3rd pary application.
  • Add/chat with XxBeholdBotxX.

Method B:
  • Send an SMS to 265010 with the format "xxbeholdbotxx:message".
  • If asked to accept messages from XxBeholdBotxX, do so.
  • You can now reply to this number (256***) to directly chat with the bot.

HOW TO SUBSCRIBE TO NFL UPDATES:

Subscribing:
Send a message to XxBeholdBotxX with the following format: nfl -s team replacing team with the team you want to get updates for (i.e. bears, packers, vikings, lions).

Unsubscribing:
Send a message to XxBeholdBotxX saying: nfl -u

Get the score of any game at request:
Send a message to XxBeholdBotxX saying: nfl -g team

REMEMBER: This is free! It's still in BETA and if problems occur, please post them here! Also, if you don't get a message when you should, chances are I am restarting the bot due to errors I have found myself. Enjoy!

P.S. The update cycle iterates every two minutes and checks the nfl.com website for scores. Be patient if it's not instant.

------

Test run over.
