Diabulous quit spreading bs please.

I'm a very serious but amateur photographer. My work is judged by people who get paid $$$$$$ for their work.. pros. Been doing it a while. And Candid/street photography is a huge section of the avocation. Now id just love you to post ONE of the statutes you claim exist but we both know you wont because it is flat out untrue. Even if some whacko wanted to make such a law it would be unconstitutional on its face (First amendment freedom of expression). You may have also noticed the hidden camera segments on every television network.... And im not quite sure btw how my DSLR with a 500mm lens and a 1.4x converter (equivalent  to a 1400mm film camera lens) would be "noticeable" btw as i could shooot a picture of you in yoru car from 1/8 mile away and read what you were typing on your cell from that distance.

There are Stalker laws but photographing someone isnt stalking them.

Stop posting this "everybody knows" garbage if you cant back it up with links.

If there is an expectation of privacy (ie-bathroom, bedroom, up someones skirt, etc..) hidden surveillance is at the very least a lawsuit waiting to happen, & may in fact be criminal. In any public venue however, all bets are off. A good example is most bars/nightclubs, there are plenty of hidden cameras in 'public' areas that record all manner of nonsense to protect the establishment from liability. Another example are cameras that record injustice, such as police brutality, or cameras hidden to protect/detect the destruction of private property.. these events go on mostly unawares, yet are completely legal, & have been used as evidence of a crime.
As i said, with the expectation of privacy - BEWARE. But if it's in plain site (even on private property), where any person could reasonably view - FAIR GAME.

Okay,
So why would anyone want their camera to be silent?

1. Formal occasions where the only cam you have is your phone (oopsie)
2. Ceremonies like Boy/Girl Scout promotions etc.
3. Getting really good candid shots of the wife picking her nose
4. The true-life scenario that happened to me as follows:

I had a yard sale and had a BUNCH of crap left over including a coupld of dead air conditioners. A couple came by and asked if they could have the AC units because the were collecting scrap metal and those puppies are loaded with good salvagable metal. They were young, lloked like they could use a few bucks and I offered to pay them to haul the rest of the stuff off to Godwill, a local charity and the local recycling facility.
Well, to say they were a little unscrupulous would be an understatement. They took all the stuff  we paid them to haul off and dumped it on the side of the road illegally. Now, the reason for the silent camera: Something gave me a sneeky suspicion that these folks might be a little shady so . . . I took my trusty Nokia 6133 and acted like I was looking for a phone number, snapped a couple pictures and saved them for posterity. About two weeks went by and the local Game Warden showed up on our door step. I'm a long haul trucker and I wasn't home at the time so my wife gave the warden my number and he called me to explain that he found all the stuff dumped on the side of the road and several books had my name in them and he was able to track me down that way.

I explained that I had an uneasy feeling about them and that I had photos of each perp. and their truck with a clear shot of the license plate . . . it was silent for a moment then he asked if I could send them to him when I got home. I said "Why wait, I have them on my phone, I can send them to you now."

He had the perps in custody before I could get home only two days later.

Attached is the pic of the truck that led to their arrest. I have blurred the plate to protect the guilty. Oh yeah, I was in Michigan when I sent the pics to the Game Warden who was in Maine at the time.

about what you guys were talking about earlier: (about whether taking pictures of others without their consent is illegal)
i think it is illegal but i think ur allowed to do it in public areas
so thats why there are traffic cameras etc.

You can disable the camera sound!

1. Open TkFileExplorer on your PC.
2. Connect your phone to your PC.
3. Navigate to the folder called "Registry" on the phone.
4. Copy ("Upload") the file "CamSetting.ini" file to your PC.
5. Open the "CamSetting.ini" file in Notepad.
6. Look for the words "ShutterSound" near or on the 2nd line.  (ReviewMode=1ShutterSound=2ViewfinderSize=2)
7. Change the number after "ShutterSound" to a 3.  e.x. Change (ShutterSound=2) to (ShutterSound=3).
*REMEMBER NO SPACES!!!*
8. Save file.
9. Delete the file ("CamSetting.ini") from the "Registry" folder off your phone.
10. Upload your modded file to your phone.  *THE SAME PLACE YOU DELETED IT FROM!* ("Registry")
11. Enjoy!!! Cheesy

Not sure of the rules of cut/paste from previous posts but this is credited to Azurevitae!!!

So through  my various contacts (of which I like to think I have many), I can now provide you with instructions how to turn off the camera shutter sound.
This assumes you know how to use TKFileExplorer.

1. In TKFileExplorer, after you connect your phone, go to Registry.

2. Upload "camsettings.ini" to the computer from the Behold's Registry.

3. Open "camsettings.ini" with Notepad.

4. Scroll to the option "(ShutterSound=1)".
There are 3 numbers:
0
1
2

5. Add the number "3" after "2" in "camsettings.ini". Save the file.

6. Go back to TkFileExplorer and the Registry window. Back up the original "camsettings.ini" on the Behold onto the computer, then delete it and upload the "camsettings.ini" you edited in Notepad onto the Behold.

7. When you go to the "shutter sound" menu in the Behold, there will be no available sound options. Your camera sound
will now be turned off.

You do get the "beep" when the autofocus is focusing on the picture. There is also no sound when you start to record video, but when you end recording video, there's still a beep.

That was easy, wasn't it?
