It is not a fix, but you can switch to multiple mode, which shoots up to ten consecutive shots, very quickly. There is a loss in quality though.

This is common to ALL digital cameras except for SLR's (my slr and gear were around $3000...). Try video or the multishot mode.

Hmmm I don't know about that one.  My 5MP digi cam doesn't lag like the camera on the Behold.  I'm definitely no guru when it comes to mobile phone processors, but I figure the camera lags a bit on the Behold because of a poor processor.  I can't speak for anyone else, but I've noticed the phone sometimes has to catch up with itself if you navigate around the menus too quickly, type texts too quickly, etc.  It even lags if you place an animated GIF as your wallpaper.

I doubt its the processor, the behold uses a 624mhz processor, same as the iphone and blackberry storm.

I also have speed bumps underfoot (ie. kids)

Sports Mode works great for me except in low light.  If you gotta use the flash, they kid's will have to sit still.

You may get slightly faster performance by turning the resolution down on the camera, maybe.

The beholds phone CAN be a little slower but all non-slr cameras have  shutter lag. Period.

There are some problems with the behold camera though that you have to get experience with. Im 99% sure the "extra" lag besides shutter speed is the software trying to autofocus and accepting that theres enough light. On autofocus SLR shooters use  the trick of prefocusing on something that is about the same distance as what you're going to want to shoot. So the software doesnt have to spend time trying to find focus. Next is take a "preshot" and be in multiple mode. You shoot a pic in the same range as what you're going to want to photograph so the camera can figure out settings it wants to use. Also leave flash on or auto. I hate on camera flashes as they tend to make pictures worse but with a 5mp sensor that small it needs as much light as possible.

You will still probably find you have problems sometimes as digicams of late are built to be "idiotproof" and simply wont shoot when they cant find focus or the light they want. Its really too bad they didnt make the phone capable of full manual shooting. As you shoot more with this camera you'll pick up its quirks.

As for "my old camera wasnt like this" etc your old camera took ultralow resolution photos with a crappy sensor. Your phone has to do a LOT of processing  editing and transfer for each pic at 5mp. So dont expect this phone camera to act like a $$$$ DSLR or even a quality prosumer digital it wont. They probably spent $20 per phone or less on the whole digital camera system as they wree mainly designing a phone.

And Mercurious you're probably right to some extent. The phone has to do a LOT of processing and the main microprocessor may be plenty fast (my 624mhz samsung 630 though doesnt seem to bog down as much as my behold does strangely...) but the camera component likely has its own processor which is nowhere near as fast and doesnt transfer data nearly as fast.

or use sports mode

Where is "sport" mode located at? I can't seem to find it in the setting, only "macro, auto focus, and spot".

Also my ISO setting is set to "AUTO" (it's not highlighted) by default. I can't seem to change the setting  from Auto to manual and select  a different ISO (ie 400) as stated. It won't let me. Is this happening to anyone else?
